English as a Second Language (ESL)

The mission of the Brownsboro ISD Bilingual/ESL Program is to increase the academic achievement of the identified English Language Learners and to promote pride in their cultural heritage by addressing their academic, linguistic, and affective needs through research-based instruction delivered by well-trained and supported educators that follow the ESL sheltered instruction program with fidelity.

Program Eligibility:

School districts in Texas are required by state law to assess the English language proficiency of all students whose Home Language Survey indicates that the home language is a language other than English. 

If a child demonstrates limited English proficiency on the assessment, the student is considered an Emergent Bilingual (EB). The student is also considered to be eligible for enrollment in the appropriate language program: bilingual education or English as a Second Language (ESL) upon recommendation of the  Language Proficiency Assessment Committee. The student is also considered to be eligible for enrollment in the appropriate language program: bilingual education or English as a Second Language (ESL) upon recommendation of the  Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC). ESL is offered at all grade levels. The goal of both programs shall be to use instructional approaches designed to meet the special needs of English language learners.  (§89.1201. Policy.)

Free English Classes for Adults:

Beginning in September of each year, Brownsboro ISD partners with PAVE East Texas to offer English Language instruction for our families that are in need of these services.  Classes are held in the BISD Administration twice a week from 5:00 - 7:00pm.
